Key questions to ask when choosing the perfect benchtop

Designing your dream kitchen is a journey where every detail matters. The choice of benchtop doesn’t just define the look of the space; it also shapes how you live in it every day. In this stunning residential project, designer Michelle Lamb, creative director at Michelle Lamb Interior Architecture, shares how Neolith transformed her family kitchen into a timeless, elegant and highly functional space.

Neolith as the starting point

With two young children and a love for entertainment, creating a kitchen that was both beautiful and practical was essential. The Neolith Arabesque surface became the heart of the project, setting the tone for the entire palette. Its soft veining and natural hues strike the perfect balance between classic and contemporary design.

Choosing the right thickness

Opting for a 12mm profile created a refined and modern finish, complementing the classical elements of the home while maintaining a sleek, contemporary edge. This slim benchtop profile works seamlessly with the oak cabinetry and architectural details, delivering both elegance and functionality.

A thoughtful blend of materials and tones

Michelle combined solid oak, veneer and melamine in a rich chocolate tone for the island, rangehood and scullery cabinetry. For the back wall and coffee nook, she selected narrow shaker-style fronts in Alabaster, a shade that perfectly echoes the base tone of Neolith Arabesque. The result is a sophisticated mix of textures and colours, unified by the surface’s timeless design.

Effortless maintenance for everyday living

For busy households, low maintenance is non-negotiable. Michelle highlights how easy it is to keep Neolith pristine: “We just use a wet cloth with some dishwashing liquid – it could not be easier.” From baking with kids to hosting friends, the benchtops withstand it all, bringing peace of mind without compromising on beauty.

Tips to design your next kitchen project

When working with your designer, consider these essentials:

  • Explore Neolith’s wide range of colours and finishes to find the one that best reflects your style.
  • Decide on the ideal thickness and edge profile to match your design vision and budget.
  • Coordinate benchtops with cabinetry and hardware for a seamless, balanced aesthetic.
  • Ask about simple maintenance routines to keep your surfaces looking as good as new.
