How to create a hamptons style kitchen

If you’d like to add a New York touch to your kitchen, pay attention to these tips from Jean Porsche. One of the biggest names today in interior design shares the secrets to turning this room into the center of your home:

1- Paper the walls and even the ceilings. If you’re more conservative and don’t want to be too bold, just use some simple stripes.

2- Choose surfaces for cooking and eating that aren’t very porous. You want esthetics and beauty, but also functionality.

3- A kitchen should be a versatile space where you can cook, work and have fun.

4- Install a faucet near the stove. It’s more convenient when cooking as well as the most common location in any American kitchen.

5- Take advantage of all the opportunities that come with mixing textures and finishes on the different surfaces, cupboard doors and walls in your kitchen.

6- Look for premium materials that invite you to enjoy extraordinary experiences due to their beauty, affinity with your style and benefits.

7- Forget about those cold lamps and go for warm lighting. Bring in as much natural light into your kitchen as possible by getting rid of the curtains on the windows.

8- Add elements that go with your style which aren’t usually found in kitchens: jugs, sculptures, paintings, books... You’ll create a cozy atmosphere and a place that reflects your life experiences.

One clear example of all of this can be found in the project “Cooking in The Hamptons”, which was created by interior designer Jean Porshe for Neolith and won second prize at the thirtieth edition of Casa Decor. The voting public liked the unique designs, versatile materials and the fact that it was a kitchen for living.
