Biophilia and Greentecture, two trends to bring nature closer to the cities and create more efficient buildings
-
The recent trends book Neolith presented, Inspiring Living For Tomorrow. Lifestyle Trends 2024, mentions two microtrends focusing on nature: Biophilia and Greentecture.
-
Both aim to create more environmentally respectful buildings and more habitable cities by turning urban planners and architects into part of the solution to halting climate change, creating greener areas and building energetically efficient bioclimatic buildings.
-
The use of Neolith surfaces on the facades of all kinds of buildings speeds up the materialization of these trends. Besides being sustainable throughout their entire lifecycle, they offer beauty, durability and the utmost construction efficiency.
According to the trends book Inspiring Living For Tomorrow. Lifestyle Trends 2024 by Neolith, cities are gradually beginning to enjoy the benefits of a green approach to their planning, fostering more sustainable urbanization which reduces the temperature in major cities, mitigates pollution and fosters natural environmental resilience.
Biophilia, understood as the presence of nature in homes, and Greentecture, which refers to the green architecture concept, are two urban trends that have arisen out of a widespread desire in society: a return to nature.
Neolith surfaces offer a comprehensive and sustainable response to this need which puts an end to the “inside” and “outside” dichotomy, creating a natural atmosphere through buildings facades all the way to household interiors.
Nature at home
Biophilia is the new paradigm: in the street, at work, at home, in leisure activities... creating animmersive green landscape that includes green areas, vertical gardens, urban vegetable patches, domestic farming, sustainable mobility and energy self-sufficiency.
The aim is to achieve a balance by combining natural resources, innovation and new materials backed by technology, creativity and design to offer a rational and emotional mix.
Neolith is working in this direction to provide a world of new sensations for indoor and outdoor surfaces from ultra-modern open-air kitchens to home and building facades, eliminating the border between the inside and the outside, to create atmospheres that fluidly extend in both directions and thus take the living room to the garden and the garden to the living room. They’re hybrid spaces that encourage enjoyment with the highest levels of design and comfort all year round with colors, designs, textures and finishes that make for unique projects.
Neolith is advocating a whole new concept: rediscovering outdoor spaces and maximizing their potential all while creating places of extreme beauty designed for living and enjoying. Penthouses, terraces, porches, pools, gardens, furniture and outdoor kitchens... they’re all undergoing a deep transformation and being re-invented under one main premise: to become fundamental places in people’s daily lives at home irrespective of the season. It’s a completely new trend bringing spaces to homes that would otherwise only be found in the best hotels and resorts, designed to offer customers the best premium experiences. With Neolith surfaces, this is now possible thanks to their versatility and resistance.
Designer, bioclimatic facades
In line with all forecasts, a higher and higher percentage of the population will be living in metropolises, cities that nowadays consume 75% of the planet’s natural resources and which are responsible for 70% of the world’s CO2 emissions. It is in this scenario that the Greentecture philosophy defends the creation of more environmentally respectful buildings and more habitable cities by turning urban planners and architects into part of the solution to halting climate change, creating more green areas – vertical gardens, urban vegetable patches – and building energetically efficient bioclimatic buildings.
The use of Neolith surfaces on the facades of all kinds of buildings: residential, offices, hotels, institutions... speeds up the materialization of these trends. Besides being sustainable throughout their entire lifecycle, they not only offer beauty, design, quality, durability and easy maintenance, but also the utmost construction efficiency.
Made with all-natural products, mostly recycled, they facilitate air circulation which diffuses any water vapors from the inside out, facilitating facade “breathing” to prevent condensation between panels.
What’s more, Neolith surfaces stand out due to their thermal insulation, which eliminates thermal bridges and, therefore, changes in temperature within the building to achieve energy savings of more than 40%. At the same time, they offer solar protection, creating thermal comfort inside buildings by preventing excessive heating in summer. They also enhance acoustic insulation due to the fact that the facade system is comprised of different layers, which increases the level of acoustic absorption. Impermeability is another advantage: the chimney effect generated by the air chamber prevents water filtrations and protects the building structure.
With respect to the company, the Neolith Group has a sustainability plan that positions it at the forefront of the sector as concerns caring for the environment. Proof of this lies in its recent Zero Waste certification which demonstrates that up to 97% of its waste is recycled or reused. This means the company’s waste management performance is absolutely excellent and that it fosters a circular economy. It also has prestigious EcoVadis certification in recognition for its corporate policies, initiatives and business achievements in environmental, labor and human rights matters as well as ethics and sustainable procurement. These are two certification programs that corroborate Neolith’s commitment to sustainability and make clear its sustainable DNA.
Inspire, move, create
Nature has come to cities and homes in full splendor to reduce temperatures and pollution and create all-natural environmental resilience. These trends are all gathered in the chapter on Urbanisation, the first of the macrotrends described in the first Neolith trends book, Inspiring Living For Tomorrow.
“Neolith has always been on the cutting edge of its sector. We’re committed to innovation, elegance and sustainable beauty in everything we do and create. And now we’ve taken on an exceptional project. With this trends report, we wanted to show present trends as well as those to be seen in the immediate future where Neolith surfaces can be a key part of the creation of unique spaces,” says Oliver de la Rica, CMO of Neolith Group.
It’s a clear reflection of what’s happening and what’s going to happen within the next several months through messages, values and a design language that includes color, shapes and materials.
